佐藤誠高個展「DUAL」では作家が近年取り組んでいるドローイングとペインティングを融合した肖像画と静物画10数点を展示致します。タイトルの「DUAL」は「二者の、二重の、二元的な、」という意味を持つ言葉で、二元的な佐藤の制作スタイルや作品を表しています。

 

佐藤はこれまで、大人の女性と赤ちゃんといった二つの対照的なモチーフを一つに融合した作品や、写真と見間違えるほど精緻に描写した鉛筆のドローイングを絵の具で乱雑に塗りつぶしてしまったかのような絵画を発表してきました。佐藤はモチーフの形態を正確に捉える目を持ちながら、同時にある種の疑いの眼差しを持ち合わせているようです。

その複眼で対象を観察した結果、本来ならば不可視であるはずのもの、対象に密かに纏わりつくものを暴き出し、画面上に浮かび上がらせているようにもみえます。

リアリティのある絵画とはなにか。それは一見して本物と見間違えるほどの正確な描写のみで成立するものではなく、隣り合わせになっている我々には見えない一面を描き出してこそ絵画にリアリティを感じるのではないか。

佐藤の作品は、作家自身のそのような問いかけから生まれています。

 

ハロウィンの仮装姿で街中を練り歩く人々のように、普段と違う特別な衣装を身に纏うことで、普段は見せない別の一面が表出する。その状態は、いつもの自分ではないけれど、本当の自分でもないのだろうか。どちらが本当の自分？どちらも含めて自分なのか？

普段は何もない静かな街で　まさかこんな事が起きるとは。

普段は穏やかなあの人が　まさかあんなことをしてしまうとは。

生きるとは　死が隣り合わせ。

幸せとは　不幸が隣り合わせ。

快楽とは　不快が隣り合わせ。

Minnano Gallery is pleased to present "DUAL," an exhibition of new paintings by Naritaka Satoh. We exhibit Satoh's portrait and still life paintings made by combination of pencil drawing and acrylic painting.

​

The title "DUAL" is a word which represents Sato's dual styles of making, and also his works. Satoh's painting was made by two different ways, precise drawing almost like a photograph, and acrylic part more carelessly painted on surface. Satoh seems to have eyes that can accurately grasp the form of the motif, but at the same time his eyes have another function that can see invisible outfit and mask that the motif is wearing. As a result of observing the motif with his compound eyes, his work seems that invisible aspect of the motif is revealed its appearance on the screen.

Satoh makes his work while asking himself the question. "What is realistic painting?" Perhaps it is not established only with an accurate depiction like photograph at first glance, instead reality may be felt when painting shows hidden aspect of the motif.
